Download any interview, quote or quote reel as audio only

The Download menu now has an Audio only option next to With captions and Without captions, so a participant's voice can go where a video file won't.

At a glance

  • Audio only sits in the Download menu beside With captions and Without captions
  • Works for full interviews, individual quotes and quote reels
  • Available from the download paths you already use, including clips in Thematic Analysis
  • Older studies prepare the audio the first time you ask, so that first download takes longer

The strongest evidence in a debrief is often a participant's own voice: the pause before an answer, the laugh, the word they lean on. Video carries all of that, but a video file does not fit every place a finding has to go. Teams were downloading clips and converting them to audio with other tools before dropping them into a deck. Now Conveo saves the audio for you.

A silent walkthrough, from the Download menu to her voice in a debrief room, a deck, a team chat and a workshop board.

How it works

  • Open the Download menu. On a quote, a quote reel or a full interview, the Download menu lists With captions, Without captions and, below them, Audio only.

  • Pick Audio only. You get an audio file of the same moment: the participant's words and tone, without the picture.

  • Use the paths you know. The option sits in several of the existing download paths, for example when you download a clip in Thematic Analysis.

  • Older studies work too. Audio for interviews recorded before this release is prepared the first time you ask for it, so that first download takes a little longer.

The voice travels further than the video file

An audio file drops into a slide, a workshop board or a team chat and plays where it lands. Stakeholders get the reaction in the participant's own voice, and the focus stays on what was said.

Research teams asked for it in four situations

These come from teams in travel, financial services, media and sports entertainment, and from research agencies. We kept them anonymous.

  • Audio clips in decks and debriefs. Teams were converting downloaded videos to audio by hand to build their presentations.

  • Agency deliverables. Agencies whose clients asked for the audio of an interview and nothing else.

  • Keeping attention on the words. Teams who wanted stakeholders focused on what a participant said.

  • Sensitive audiences. Teams working with professionals who prefer to share a voice over a face.

What this means for your research

Your findings can carry the participant's voice into rooms where video rarely gets played. An audio file still carries a real person's voice, so the same consent and sharing rules apply as for the video. Plan a moment for the first download from an older study while the audio is prepared.
