Question Routing: Keep Interviews Relevant and Focused

Not every question is relevant to every participant. If someone doesn’t own a car, asking about their driving habits wastes time and muddies your data. Question Routing, also known as skip logic or branching, lets you ask or skip questions based on participants’ previous answers.

How it works

As participants move through the interview, Conveo automatically evaluates routing conditions. Questions that don’t meet their conditions are skipped.

Participants only see questions that apply to them. You get cleaner, more focused data with fewer irrelevant responses.

Setting it up

Routing can be added to any question in your topic guide:

• Click the routing icon
• Reference an earlier structured question (single or multi-select)
• Choose your condition: “is any of” or “is none of”
• Select the triggering answers
• Save

That’s it. No code required.

Simple to complex logic

Create straightforward one-condition skips, or build advanced branching flows using nested AND/OR logic groups.

Routing conditions can reference any structured question that appears earlier in your guide, giving you full control over how your interview unfolds.

Why it matters

• More natural, relevant conversations
• Reduced participant fatigue
• Cleaner datasets
• The ability to run more sophisticated study designs
