Anna Sharp got into research by asking the CEO of one of the world’s largest agencies out for a juice. Eight years later she is the ethnographer clients call on a Friday.
In her twenties Anna messaged the chief executive of one of the leading market research agencies in the world on LinkedIn. She did not want to be cliché and ask for a coffee, so she asked for a juice and whether she could pick his brain. He said yes. The eight years that followed were spent in qualitative research at Kantar: ethnography, in-depth interviews, shop-alongs and hybrid methods.
As an ethnographer it mattered to her to back something she believed in. She came to Conveo through the interview process, saw the platform, and says it sold itself. She joined the client growth team in London and runs studies with media and consumer clients.
The story she tells is the Friday one. The head of insight at one of Conveo’s biggest media clients, fifty years in the industry, wanted to bring the voice of viewers into a board meeting. They spoke on a Friday morning. The study was built within the hour and done by Saturday morning. The email she got back was one word: wow. More recently she led the training for a broadcaster’s insights squad and ran an in-restaurant pilot for a global restaurant brand.
Outside work she is a mum to a three-year-old: in the park wiping ice cream off her T-shirt, or at hot yoga and strength training.

So my name is Anna Sharp. I live in London. I've been doing market research for just over eight years now.
The way I got into market research was quite funny. I was very ballsy in my 20s. I reached out on LinkedIn to the CEO of one of the leading market research agencies in the world and said, because I didn't want to be cliché and ask for a coffee, do you want to go for a juice? Can I pick your brain? For whatever reason, I think he found it funny that some random 20-year-old with no clue about market research reached out to the CEO. And he was like, sure.
That path led me to reaching out to people in Conveo, going through the interviewing process, and then really seeing the platform. As an ethnographer, it was really important for me to actually back something that I believed in. And the product basically sold itself, so I was like, okay, cool.
Last Friday I had one of our biggest media clients ping me, the head of insight. This is a person who has been in the industry probably 50-plus years. He wanted to speak to consumers, to their viewers, to understand what they thought about their brand, and to bring that perspective, the consumer voice, into the boardroom, because there was going to be this huge board meeting.
We had the initial chat on a Friday morning. He shared some thoughts with regards to what he wanted. That then got built within an hour, max. And by Saturday morning the project was done. The email I got back was just "Wow." That was it, one word. I spoke to him after and I think it just blew his mind.
Outside of work, it depends what time of year it is. I have a three-year-old, so I'm a mom. So I'm either in the park trying to wipe ice cream off my t-shirt whilst running around. Hot yoga, love hot yoga. Strength training, eating too many protein bars and trying to eat healthy.
